Strange Games. Pedro Pablo Oliva

Strange Games is the first major compilation of the work of Cuban artist Pedro Pablo Oliva (Pinar del Río, 1949).

This book is the result of two years of archival research by a team of collaborators led by editorial coordinator Silva Oliva Saínz, and was one of the projects designed to celebrate the artist's 70th birthday in 2019 and the half-century since his graduation from the Cubanacán National School of Art in 2020.

This long-awaited volume finally opens the door to four decades (1974-1913) of feverish creative activity by someone considered by many to be a cult master and one of the most transcendental Cuban artists of all time. The impressive gallery of paintings, drawings, illustrations, sketches, and sculptures in Strange Games is accompanied by photographs of the artist at work in some of his studios.

The book also contains an illuminating introduction and an anthology of texts by prestigious Cuban critics and curators, especially complemented by a selection of the artist's own "confessions," which he has made over the years, highlighting crucial elements of his life and key inspirations that have influenced his work. Together, these texts offer a broad and in-depth understanding of the richness, diversity, and complexity of a corpus of fundamental works in Cuban and Latin American art.
